An ominous sentence. David has been in what he describes as a dream-state since meeting Dora. He does not awake until she and he depart on their honeymoon. A grown man should perhaps be cautious about fulfilling a "boyish dream." In a moment David will remark, again ominously, that "Nothing is real."
