The "perfect abode" begins an entirely happy time in David's life, and the time and place become a sort of lodestar he will pursue throughout his life: to find the perfect home, which is synonymous with something enchanting, something that cloisters one in simple mystery.

It is, too, a lovely-sounding word, and while now it means a permanent dwelling it recently and can still mean a sojourn and a temporary place.
